A woman in her 20s accused of stabbing her grandfather to death with a knife has been arrested.
On the 20th, Seoul Northern District Court Chief Judge Park Sa-rang issued an arrest warrant for the woman, identified as A, after holding a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant review hearing). A had been sought on charges of murdering a lineal ascendant. Judge Park cited concerns over flight risk and the possible destruction of evidence as grounds for issuing the warrant.
A is accused of stabbing her grandfather, an 80-year-old man identified as B, to death at around 11:50 a.m. on the 18th in Dapsimni-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul. A herself called 119 immediately after the crime, and B was transported to a hospital but ultimately died. The two had been living together in the same home with no other family members.
A, who appeared in court that day, nodded when asked, "Were you threatened by your grandfather?" A had earlier told police during questioning that she "killed him impulsively during an argument," according to reports.
Police plan to refer A to the prosecution after investigating the precise circumstances of the crime.
