The second comprehensive special counsel team will summon former President Yoon Suk-yeol on the sixth of next month to investigate charges of leading an insurrection under the Military Criminal Act.
The second comprehensive special counsel team, led by special counsel Kwon Chang-young, said Thursday that it plans to summon Yoon on the sixth of next month as a suspect facing charges of leading a rebellion. The special counsel has reportedly been coordinating the summons schedule with Yoon's side, and Yoon is understood to have expressed his intention to appear.
The special counsel has been expanding its investigation into the rebellion charges, recently summoning in succession former Army Chief of Staff Park An-su, who served as martial law commander, and former Army Special Warfare Command chief Kwak Jong-keun, who testified that he received orders from Yoon to "arrest politicians."
The core of the rebellion charge under the Military Criminal Act is that Yoon, in sequential conspiracy with figures including former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun at the time of the December 3 martial law declaration last year, instigated a riot by deploying armed soldiers to the National Assembly and the National Election Commission.
The special counsel had earlier notified Yoon's side to appear as a suspect on the 26th in connection with charges of abuse of authority and obstruction of the exercise of rights. The special counsel plans to summon him again on the 29th if he does not comply with the investigation.
