Korea's first mobile maritime media content, allowing visitors to explore a fantastical undersea world aboard a monorail, is set to debut in Jangsaengpo, Ulsan.
Ulsan's Nam-gu district said Wednesday that it has completed the final video demonstration and inspection of the media tunnel, the core facility of "The Wave" project, and is wrapping up final work with a target official opening in June.
The newly unveiled "The Wave" media facade marks the country's first attempt at a "mobile" structure. Departing from the conventional approach in which visitors view content while standing still, the installation features high-resolution LED video and sound choreographed to the movement of the monorail.
The media tunnel spans approximately 31 meters and is built with a U-shaped large-format high-resolution LED screen that wraps around the top and both sides of the monorail. Passengers will experience an immersive journey featuring fantastical stories themed around Jangsaengpo's blue ocean and whales as the monorail passes through the tunnel.
"The Wave project goes beyond simply building a facility — it will become a key nighttime content offering that creates new tourism experiences for the Jangsaengpo Whale Cultural Zone," Nam-gu District Mayor Seo Dong-wook said. "We will refine the project to the very end and present it in a complete form befitting Nam-gu's standing as Korea's leading marine tourism city."
"The Wave" project is a complex cultural facility being developed in the Maeam-dong area of Nam-gu, Ulsan. Construction is scheduled for completion in May, and following system stabilization, the facility is expected to officially open to tourists in June.
