A father in his 40s is under police investigation for striking his middle school-aged son, authorities said.
The Bundang Police Station in Gyeonggi Province said Thursday that it had booked the man, identified only as A, on charges of violating the Child Welfare Act and was investigating the case.
A is suspected of striking his middle school-aged son, identified as B, on the buttocks several times with his hand at their home in Gumi-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam, at around 10 a.m. on the 1st.
According to the investigation, A struck the boy after the son used profanity and displayed aggressive behavior, demanding to know why he was not being given an allowance.
Officers who responded to the scene after receiving a report from B briefly questioned A through voluntary accompaniment and then allowed him to return home.
Police are investigating the detailed circumstances of the case.
