Yangju City has launched joint inspections of construction and manufacturing sites to prevent the top three workplace accidents — falls, pinching and collisions — to mark "Labor Safety Day" in May.
According to Yangju City on Wednesday, the city recently formed a public-private joint inspection team comprising responsible public officials, labor safety guards and the Gyeonggi Northern Workers' Health Center to conduct on-site safety education and inspections. The inspections were carried out based on the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Gyeonggi Province Ordinance on Industrial Accident Prevention and Labor Safety and Health Support.
The inspections focused on preventing the three major types of accidents. In 2023, approximately 61% of industrial accident deaths in Gyeonggi Province were attributed to falls (40.34%), pinching (11.01%) and collisions (9.72%). The inspection team intensively examined the fastening status of safety hooks at construction sites, anti-pinching measures for equipment such as forklifts and rollers, and measures to secure visibility during work. The team also conducted a campaign distributing safety stickers and promotional flyers to on-site workers.
"Risk factors at construction and manufacturing sites change frequently depending on the process," a Yangju City official said. "Substantial reduction of accidents is only possible when employers and workers jointly establish and implement a safety and health management system."
The city plans to continue on-site inspections and outreach to eliminate blind spots in labor safety within its jurisdiction.
