Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggido Business and Science Accelerator (GBSA) successfully held the Startup Investment Conference & Global Day on Wednesday as a side event of the 2023 Gyeonggi Startup Week.
The demo day was designed to provide promising technology startups in the province with opportunities to attract investment and expand sales channels through connections with domestic and foreign investors. The event consisted of an investment conference for domestic investors and a Global Day for overseas investors.
Participating companies showcased innovative technologies and services, drawing strong interest from major Korean investors including Lotte Ventures, Hyundai Technology Investment, and Mirae Asset Venture Investment, as well as 21 investors from eight countries — including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Singapore — who participated both online and offline.
The investment conference featured five top companies selected over the past five months through monthly IR capability training, consulting, and investor matching, while 10 companies delivered IR pitches at the Global Day.
In the judging results, Medihub (Gunpo, digital automatic injector) won the grand prize at the investment conference, while Valientex (Bucheon, IoT service for pets) received the excellence award, with prize money of 10 million won and 5 million won, respectively. At the Global Day, Lysentech (Seongnam, endolysin antibiotics targeting Gram-negative multidrug-resistant bacteria) won the grand prize, and HumanAce (Pocheon, organ-on-a-chip for drug efficacy and toxicity evaluation) received the excellence award.
In the second part of the event, participating companies as well as firms that had taken part in the investment linkage support program over the past five months held one-on-one investment consultations and networking sessions with pre-matched domestic and foreign investors.
"To make Gyeonggi Province a paradise for Korean startups, we will continue to lead efforts in creating the best venture startup environment," GBSA President Kang Sung-cheon said. "We ask for continued interest and cooperation from all stakeholders in the startup ecosystem, including startups and domestic and foreign investors."
Meanwhile, among the participating companies, BILab (Ansan, high-energy next-generation lithium metal batteries) attracted 7 billion won in investment, APgreen (Ansan, clean hydrogen production and carbon conversion technology) secured 450 million won, Wellscare (Suwon, photobiomodulation rehabilitation treatment solution) raised 300 million won, and Eco&Rich (Seongnam, AI-based customized dental prosthesis manufacturing technology) secured 200 million won.
