An exhibition illuminating the beauty of small creatures will be held at the Sky Plaza Gallery on the 8th floor of the Seoul City Hall main building.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 13th that it will hold artist Park Sang-bin's painting exhibition "Insect Encyclopedia: The Radiance of Life in Small Beings" from the 14th through July 29.
The Sky Plaza Gallery is a cultural and artistic space located on the 8th floor of the Seoul City Hall main building, offering a panoramic view of Seoul Plaza. It is open to all citizens free of charge. Since 2014, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has presented diverse exhibitions through annual open calls, expanding citizens' opportunities to enjoy culture and the arts.
This exhibition is the first of three programs selected from 130 submissions to the 2026 Sky Plaza Gallery artist open call. Park reinterprets insects that are easily overlooked in daily life through his own perspective, developing a distinctive artistic world.
The exhibition title "Insect Encyclopedia" carries the meaning of conveying the sensibility and beauty of life through insects. The works delicately express water droplets on insect wings and colors that change with shifts in light, illuminating insects not as mere objects of observation but as living beings with their own lives to live.

Park has been working on the themes of insects and water droplets since 2015. Based on thousands of photographs taken with a macro lens, he captures the vitality and minute beauty of small creatures on canvas. His work has earned him the "2025 H-EAA Selected Artist Award" and the "Excellence Award at the 32nd Daejeon Metropolitan City Art Competition."
Citizen participation programs will also be offered during the exhibition. In the "Sparkling Water Droplets! Insect Pop-up Card Making" experience, participants can create three-dimensional cards using insect images from the exhibition and express water droplet effects using transparent resin.
The program will be held twice on July 21, at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., with registration on a first-come, first-served basis through the Seoul Metropolitan Government's public service reservation site starting at 10 a.m. on July 14. Eight participants can join per session, with an experience time of approximately 60 minutes and a participation fee of 5,000 won.
"The Sky Plaza Gallery is an open cultural space where citizens can naturally encounter art in their daily lives," said Kwak Jong-bin, director general of Seoul's Administrative Affairs Bureau. "We hope this exhibition becomes an opportunity to discover the beauty contained in small lives."
