An elementary school student identified as A, who went missing after hiking alone at Juwangsan National Park in Cheongsong County, North Gyeongsang Province, after visiting with his parents on the 10th of this month, was found dead three days after his disappearance. Fire authorities said, "He is presumed to have died after falling."
On Wednesday morning, authorities deployed more than 350 personnel including police and firefighters, along with helicopters, drones and rescue dogs, to conduct third-day search operations focused on a roughly 2.3-kilometer hiking trail section from Giam Bridge to Jubong Peak (720.6 meters above sea level), as well as surrounding trails and slopes.
During the search, police special forces discovered A lying dead at the lower section of Jubong Peak at around 10:20 a.m., according to officials. Authorities believe A suffered the fatal accident after setting out alone on the hike on the day of his disappearance, and plan to investigate the exact circumstances.
