The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education has selected 19 schools to operate its "2026 Vocational High School AI Capability Enhancement Project."
The provincial education office designed the program to help students move beyond theory-focused education and develop practical skills ready for field deployment, responding to rapidly changing industrial structures such as agent AI and physical AI.
During the selection review, the office evaluated each school's specialized capabilities and project plans through presentation videos produced directly by school principals. The selected schools will actively incorporate AI into their major curricula, enabling students to solve industry-field problems on their own.
Alongside this, the schools will fully restructure their curricula to include regular AI foundation courses, major-linked AI convergence classes, industry problem-solving AI capstone design projects, and AI capability training programs for teachers.
The core of the project, the "AI Capstone Design Class," has students analyze tasks from companies and find solutions using AI. Students can use portfolios and video content documenting the process from planning to final output as "virtual work experience" when seeking employment.
"We will actively support Gyeonggi's vocational high schools in becoming the standard for vocational education in Korea by enhancing students' AI utilization capabilities and strengthening industry-academia-linked curricula that connect classroom learning with practical experience," an official from the provincial education office said.
