"The continuous voice phishing prevention training provided by NongHyup was a great help in the field," a staff member said.
A rookie employee with less than one year of service at Suncheon NongHyup in South Jeolla Province is drawing attention after using quick thinking to prevent an electronic financial fraud (voice phishing) incident and protect a customer's valuable assets.
According to Suncheon NongHyup on Tuesday, a woman in her 70s, identified as A, visited the Farmers Branch of Suncheon NongHyup at around 3:10 p.m. the previous day and requested a cash withdrawal of 20 million won ($14,000) from her account.
The employee serving A determined that the transaction could be linked to financial fraud, given that A had already withdrawn 4.5 million won on two previous occasions and could not clearly explain the intended use of the funds. The employee delayed the transfer and immediately reported the situation to a manager, following the training received at NongHyup.
The manager and staff explained voice phishing cases to the distressed A and promptly reported the incident to the police.
This is not the only instance in which the composed and attentive work of Farmers Branch staff at Suncheon NongHyup has protected a customer's valuable assets from voice phishing crimes.
Last month, a customer who had already lost 5 million won returned to the branch the next day attempting to withdraw an additional 15 million won. Staff members noticed the situation and intervened to prevent further damage.
"The continuous training on voice phishing for all employees and our attention to customers seem to have greatly helped in preventing incidents," an official at Suncheon NongHyup said. "We will remain a NongHyup that values customer assets and pays close attention to their needs."
