
A large-scale baseball tournament aimed at promoting camaraderie among baseball enthusiasts in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, and revitalizing community sports has opened.
Uijeongbu Urban Corporation announced Tuesday that the 16th Uijeongbu Mayor's Cup Sports Festival Baseball Tournament has opened at Nogyang Baseball Stadium. Hosted by the Uijeongbu Sports Council and organized by the Uijeongbu Baseball Softball Association, the tournament will run for about six months through October.
Matches will be held every Sunday to accommodate the schedules of office workers and amateur enthusiasts. A total of 15 teams will compete in a tournament format to determine the champion. With community-based teams participating, the event is expected to serve as a local festival that strengthens communication and bonds among enthusiasts.
Uijeongbu Urban Corporation conducted facility inspections and artificial turf repairs to ensure the smooth operation of the tournament.
"We hope this tournament will serve as a valuable opportunity for local enthusiasts to showcase their skills," said Jeon Hyun-young, president of Uijeongbu Urban Corporation. "We will do our best to support a successful tournament while prioritizing the safety of the players."
"We will expand the baseball base in Uijeongbu by hosting various tournaments for local enthusiasts," said Shin Hyo-geun, chairman of the Uijeongbu Baseball Softball Association. "We will also ensure the successful operation of the Division Tournament hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Baseball Softball Association."
