Gwangju Shinsegae, which has been carrying out vigorous social contribution activities while continuing its partnership with the local community, has rolled up its sleeves to nurture future regional talent.
Gwangju Shinsegae said it held the 31st Regional Talent Hope Scholarship ceremony at the CEO's office of Gwangju Shinsegae on the 6th. The event was attended by Lee Dong-hoon, CEO of Gwangju Shinsegae, and Kim Eun-young, director of the Gwangju Home-Based Foster Care Support Center of ChildFund Korea.
Gwangju Shinsegae donated 70 million won to the Gwangju headquarters of ChildFund Korea that day. The scholarship will be used to support local students who are focusing on their studies in difficult circumstances.
Gwangju Shinsegae's scholarship contributions do not end there.
In April, the company delivered 20 million won in scholarships to the Seo-gu Scholarship Foundation. Gwangju Shinsegae has been contributing scholarships to the Seo-gu Scholarship Foundation since 2016 to help foster talent in the Seo-gu district.
In addition, the company delivered scholarships to the Roksu Scholarship Foundation, which was established to support children of firefighters, as well as the Hanmaeum Scholarship Foundation and the Mudol Scholarship Foundation, contributing a total of 130 million won in hope scholarships to the local community this year alone.
The cumulative amount Gwangju Shinsegae has delivered to local talent under the name of hope scholarships has surpassed 3.5 billion won through this year, drawing praise that the company is properly demonstrating the stature of a local subsidiary.
Since last year, the company has established the "With Shinsegae" Hope Scholarship to help local youth concentrate on their educational curriculum. The Gwangju Student Art Competition, sponsored by Gwangju Shinsegae, also wrapped up its third annual event this year with strong response.
"Gwangju Shinsegae is participating in various scholarship programs to support students who will lead the region's future," CEO Lee Dong-hoon said. "As a local subsidiary, we will strive to engage in ESG activities that benefit the community."
