A South Korean court has rejected an injunction filed by Dongjak District Chief Park Il-ha, who sought to suspend the ruling People Power Party's decision to exclude him from its candidate nomination race for the Dongjak district chief post in Seoul.
The Seoul Southern District Court's 51st Civil Division, led by Presiding Judge Kwon Seong-soo, on Thursday dismissed the injunction filed by Park against the party's Seoul chapter. The court found that the cutoff decision against Park was made with the required quorum and that the Seoul chapter did not abuse its discretion in the process.
"The issue was whether the quorum requirement of a majority of attending members was met, but nomination management committee members who expressed their opinions by phone without being present at the meeting cannot be considered 'attending members,'" the court said.
