The Korea Consumer Agency and the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said Monday they are launching a public awareness campaign on safety guidelines to prevent accidents caused by portable massagers.
With the recent rise in demand for home healthcare, the distribution of wearable portable massagers has been expanding. The Korea Consumer Agency said, "Portable massagers can cause safety accidents such as low-temperature burns and friction-induced blisters when used continuously for extended periods, requiring particular caution."
The Korea Consumer Agency and the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards urged consumers to follow these guidelines for safe use of portable massagers: adhere to the product's recommended usage time and avoid prolonged continuous use; when using heating functions, avoid direct contact with bare skin and place a thin layer of clothing in between; do not use the device during sleep, driving, or other situations where immediate response is difficult; and take care not to subject the battery to impact by throwing the device or applying excessive pressure.
The two agencies plan to produce promotional videos and posters containing safety guidelines for portable massagers and distribute them online and offline together with consumer groups.
"This promotional video will be produced in AI-based short-form format and disseminated through social networking services (SNS)," an official at the Korea Consumer Agency said. "We hope this will help establish a culture of safe use for portable massagers."
