Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Young-hoon is traveling to Jinju to personally mediate stalled negotiations between the Cargo Truckers Solidarity Union and BGF, following the death of a union member.
According to the Ministry of Employment and Labor, Minister Kim will visit the ministry's Jinju branch at 8 p.m. on the 28th, where the fourth round of negotiations between the Cargo Truckers Solidarity Union and BGF Logis, the logistics subsidiary of BGF Retail, will be held.
On the 22nd, the Cargo Truckers Solidarity Union and BGF Logis held their first introductory meeting for dialogue, two days after the fatal accident involving a union member. The two sides continued negotiations over proposals to improve working conditions for cargo workers at CU logistics centers, as demanded by the union.
The two sides held three meetings, including an overnight session spanning 16 hours on the 26th and 27th. However, apart from agreement on some clauses, they failed to narrow their differences.
With progress in the talks slow, Minister Kim took it upon himself to mediate and decided to visit the Jinju branch in person. Kim also played an active role in opening the dialogue channel between the two sides on the 22nd.
The current situation was triggered on the 20th at around 10:32 a.m., when a cargo truck driven by a non-union member struck union members at a Cargo Truckers Solidarity Union rally site in front of the CU logistics center in Jinju, killing one person and injuring two others.
