Seoul Energy Corp. has received a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare in recognition of its improvements to the heating fee support system for people with severe disabilities.
The corporation expanded the heating fee subsidy for people with severe disabilities from 4,500 won per month to 66,000 won per year (approximately 5,500 won per month), while also raising the heating area standard from 99 square meters to 120 square meters, broadening both the scope of beneficiaries and the benefits provided.
Through its "Ontong (溫通) Welfare Service" launched last year, the corporation has moved away from an application-based system to provide proactive, targeted energy welfare services. It currently provides approximately 4.7 billion won ($3.4 million) in annual heating fee support to about 24 percent of the roughly 290,000 vulnerable households within its heat supply coverage area.
"This result reflects recognition of our achievements in institutional improvements for energy-vulnerable groups and field-centered policy innovation," CEO Hwangbo Yeon said. "Through continuous enhancement of the system, we will do our utmost to realize energy welfare with no blind spots and to improve citizens' tangible experience."
