Prosecutors investigating the fatal assault case of late film director Kim Chang-min summoned and questioned two suspects.
The Criminal Division 2 of the Namyangju Branch of the Uijeongbu District Prosecutors' Office, led by Chief Prosecutor Park Shin-young, summoned suspects A and B for questioning at 10 a.m. on Monday. This marked the first questioning session since the Criminal Division 2 was assigned as the dedicated investigation team for the case.
A and B appeared with their attorneys and were questioned for about 10 hours. While some had expected prosecutors to seek arrest warrants for the suspects, they were released to go home that day.
The suspects are accused of assaulting and killing Kim on October 20 last year at around 1 a.m. in front of a restaurant in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, following a dispute over noise. Kim was transported to a hospital by 119 emergency responders after the assault but never regained consciousness and was declared brain-dead 17 days later. Kim died after donating his organs to four recipients.
Previously, prosecutors had questioned Kim's son, who has a developmental disability and was with the director at the scene, as a witness. On the 15th of this month, prosecutors conducted search-and-seizure operations at the suspects' homes.
