The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) held the first meeting of their joint task force on artificial intelligence (AI) talent development at the conference room of the Presidential Advisory Council on Science and Technology, the ministries said Tuesday.
The AI talent development task force was established as a follow-up to the "Education Ministry-MSIT Talent Policy Roundtable" held on the 19th of last month, with the vice ministers of both ministries serving as co-chairs. The meeting reviewed the progress of cooperative projects related to AI talent development and shared future areas requiring collaboration. In particular, cooperation plans between the Education Ministry's AI hub universities and MSIT's AI colleges and AI-focused universities were the main focus of discussion.
Other topics discussed included the establishment of an AI practical training platform for primary and secondary education, innovation in teacher training and professional development systems for the AI era, and the preparation of guidelines for the use of generative AI in education.
"Talent policy in the AI era is an agenda that requires collaboration across multiple ministries," Choi Eun-ok, Vice Minister of Education, said. "We expect the efforts of the two ministries to create synergy."
Ryu Je-myung, Second Vice Minister of Science and ICT, stressed, "If the Education Ministry lays a solid foundation for basic education, MSIT will actively provide advanced research environments and practical training infrastructure to create an ecosystem where our talents can grow into world-class AI experts."
