Happy City is emerging as a new town model sought after by the world.
The National Agency for Administrative City Construction (NAACC) said a seven-member Australian parliamentary delegation, including Western Australia state senator Klara Andric, visited the Multifunctional Administrative City on the 22nd to examine its successful urban development achievements.
Officials from the Australian parliament, which possesses globally recognized urban planning models, directly reviewed the construction outcomes of Happy City, strengthening the foundation for practical cooperation in urban development and policy between the two countries.
From the early planning stages, Happy City was designed with reference to Canberra, Australia's capital, particularly its harmony between urban structure and natural environment and its efficient arrangement of national functions.
The delegation examined how Canberra's case has been implemented in Happy City and showed keen interest in how the city has grown into a self-sufficient urban area with a population of 300,000 in less than 20 years.
The delegation especially praised the development of Happy City into an original future urban model that integrates advanced smart city technologies and eco-friendly design, including low-impact development (LID) techniques.
"Happy City's successful construction experience is serving as a great inspiration for countries around the world considering urban development," said Hong Soon-min, director general of the NAACC's facilities project bureau. "Not only developing countries such as Indonesia, which is currently pursuing a capital relocation, but also advanced urban planning nations like Australia are citing Happy City as an exemplary case of new town construction."
Visits by senior government officials from countries pursuing urban development, including Tanzania, Kazakhstan, and Timor-Leste, have continued at Happy City this year.
