A motorcyclist in his 20s was killed after colliding with a sport utility vehicle (SUV) on a road in Ulsan.
According to the Ulsan Fire Headquarters on Friday, a Santa Fe driven by a man in his 60s, identified as A, collided with a motorcycle ridden by a man in his 20s, identified as B, at around 5:21 p.m. Thursday on Mipo Industrial Road (toward Nammok) in Jujeon-dong, Dong-gu.
Shortly after the accident, authorities received a report that "a person is trapped under a vehicle following a collision between a car and a motorcycle." Fire authorities immediately deployed 25 rescue personnel and nine pieces of equipment to the scene, but the motorcyclist B died from severe injuries.
Police believe the accident occurred when A attempted to pull out from a parked position on the shoulder and cross into the opposite lane, striking the oncoming motorcycle.
The Ulsan Dongbu Police Station has booked A without detention on charges of causing death by negligence under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents. Police are investigating the exact circumstances and determining fault based on the scene and dashcam footage.
