Gyeonggi Gimpo Urban Corporation is delivering results in "safety, convenience, and innovation" across citizen-centered infrastructure including mobility support for the transportation-vulnerable, public parking lots, and underpasses. Moving beyond simple facility management, the corporation is building data-driven operations and preemptive safety management systems, enhancing public trust in public institutions.
Gimpo Urban Corporation announced on the 21st that it has significantly improved its operating system to guarantee mobility rights for the transportation-vulnerable. To enhance dispatch efficiency, it temporarily added three dedicated vehicles in 2024 and two special transportation vehicles in 2025, along with seven additional personnel. It is also facilitating smooth dispatching through mobility data analysis.
Vehicle modernization is also accelerating. From 2024 to the present, 15 aging vehicles have been replaced, and an additional 16 vehicles will be replaced or introduced over the next three years. Starting this year, emergency call bells and first-aid kits are being installed inside vehicles, and user-customized services are being provided through outing programs in cooperation with welfare centers for people with disabilities.
◇ Public Parking Lots Implement "Safe Parking" with Smart Technology
Public parking lots are evolving beyond mere parking spaces into living infrastructure safe from crime and fire. Starting with the Unyang Station Transfer Center in 2023, the corporation obtained crime prevention excellent facility certification for the Hangang Central Park parking lot in 2024. It also repainted parking spaces at 23 locations, increasing the effectiveness of safety accident prevention.
To preemptively respond to electric vehicle fires, this year the corporation prioritized installing initial response equipment at four major parking lots: Unyang Station Transfer Center, Gurae Commercial District, Bukbyeon Automatic, and Sau Automatic parking lots. The corporation plans to expand this across all public parking lots.
Inclusive services have also been strengthened. Card-only payment systems, sign language interpretation, and multilingual guidance have been introduced, and the Unyang Station Transfer Center became the first public parking lot to acquire the "Restroom Cultural Quality Certification," raising hygiene standards.
◇ Underpasses Shift from Disaster Response to "Preemptive Prevention" System
Underpass management is focused on strengthening disaster response capabilities and building smart systems. This year, 1.94 km of safety railings were installed on the Janggi Underpass inspection path to protect pedestrians and workers, and this will be expanded in stages.
Disaster response capacity has also been strengthened. This year, a joint training with related agencies was conducted with the largest-ever participation of 80 people, and flooding alert devices were introduced at 11 locations. Specialized equipment for responding to electric vehicle fires, such as suffocation fire blankets, was also deployed to maximize response capabilities.
To create a safe driving environment, aging lighting is being fully replaced, starting with the replacement of 421 LED lights this year. The corporation plans to continuously strengthen disaster response capacity during the rainy season through smart monitoring, predictive response systems, and expanded drainage maintenance.
