Pocheon City in Gyeonggi Province completed its four-year renovation of Gomo Lake Park and opened the newly refurbished waterside rest area to the public on Thursday. Aging facilities were fully overhauled, and the park has been reborn as a multipurpose space equipped with an outdoor stage, waterside walkways, night lighting and other amenities.
Gomo Lake Park is one of the most frequented everyday leisure spots for Pocheon residents. However, calls to improve the environment had steadily grown as facilities deteriorated. The city pushed ahead with a comprehensive renovation reflecting residents' feedback.
Through the project, an outdoor stage, waterside walkways, viewing rest areas, gardens, a parking lot and photo zones were newly created. Pedestrian routes linked to the waterside area were expanded to enhance convenience. Night lighting was also installed to improve usability during evening hours.
The project went through a series of administrative procedures, including the lifting of agricultural protection zone designations and urban management planning decisions. Consultation and coordination among relevant agencies took approximately four years.
"Gomo Lake Park has established itself as a comfortable retreat in residents' daily lives and a space where precious memories are built," a Pocheon City official said. "Through this renovation, it has advanced a step further as a community-oriented park that enhances residents' quality of life."
The city plans to continue improving waterside spaces centered on the Gomo Reservoir area.
