Daejeon has begun drawing up a blueprint for developing a multimodal transit hub at Seodaejeon Station.
The city held a kickoff meeting on Tuesday for the "Seodaejeon Station Multimodal Transit Center Master Plan and Feasibility Study," attended by Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo, relevant bureau directors, and officials from related agencies including the Korea National Railway and Korea Railroad Corporation.
The study aims to strengthen connectivity among transportation modes around Seodaejeon Station, including railways, urban rail, and city buses, repositioning the area as a metropolitan transit hub. It will also establish a concrete roadmap for revitalizing the station district and promoting balanced regional development.
Key tasks of the study include optimizing passenger flow for easier transfers at Seodaejeon Station, building a connected system in line with the opening of Daejeon Urban Railway Line 2 (Tram) and the Chungcheong Metropolitan Railway, and reviewing mixed-use development models utilizing state- and publicly-owned land around the station.
In particular, the city plans to maximize Seodaejeon Station's geographic advantages through the study and create a "multipurpose hub space" that combines commercial, cultural, and business facilities beyond simple transfer functions, promoting balanced development in the southwestern region.
"Seodaejeon Station will become an important transportation node where the tram and metropolitan railway intersect in the future," Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo said. "We will conduct the study thoroughly so that Seodaejeon Station can function as an efficient metropolitan transit hub."
