A police officer who served as the real-life model for Ma Seok-do, the detective character played by actor Ma Dong-seok in the blockbuster action film "The Roundup," has been indicted on drunk driving charges.
According to legal sources on Tuesday, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office's Criminal Division 1, led by Chief Prosecutor Shin Do-wook, indicted Senior Inspector A, formerly of Seoul's Suseo Police Station, without detention on Saturday on charges of drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act.
Senior Inspector A caused a collision around 8:30 p.m. on November 24 last year while driving under the influence near Gangnam Severance Hospital in Gangnam District, Seoul. His blood alcohol level at the time was above the license revocation threshold of 0.08 percent. No casualties were reported.
Senior Inspector A was suspended from duty after the drunk driving incident came to light.
His career is said to have served as the inspiration for Ma Seok-do, the protagonist of "The Roundup." Ma Dong-seok, who both starred in and produced the film, developed the concept by drawing on interviews with detectives about their real experiences.
