Defects have been discovered in a retaining wall within the green space of Yongin Techno Valley General Industrial Complex, prompting a precision safety inspection.
Cheoin District in Yongin City announced on January 9 that it conducted an on-site inspection of the Yongin Techno Valley General Industrial Complex on the same day.
The inspection, which took place on January 7, was initiated after concerns were raised about defects found in the retaining wall within the industrial complex's green space.
The inspection involved city officials, construction contractors, and precision safety inspection service providers. They thoroughly examined structural deformation and crack conditions, on-site and surrounding safety measures, causes of the defects, and future action plans, while discussing solutions to the problems.
The counterfort retaining wall where problems were identified is classified as a "Type 2 facility" (retaining walls with a combined height of 100 meters or more for sections exposed 5 meters or higher above ground level).
The inspection results confirmed that the retaining wall showed planned alignment error (overturning/tilting) exceeding 4% during the precision safety inspection. Based on current findings, the safety rating is expected to be designated as either "Grade D (inadequate)" or "Grade E (poor)."
A Cheoin District official said, "We have determined that the retaining wall where defects were confirmed requires detailed analysis, so we will proceed with a precision safety inspection." The official added, "Based on the results, we will take swift action on matters requiring repair and reinforcement."
