A wolf named "Neukgu" that escaped from Daejeon O-World has been reportedly spotted in neighboring Cheongju as search efforts entered their second day.
According to police on January 9, a report was received around 6:50 p.m. stating that "a wolf was seen wandering around Simok-ri, Hyeondo-myeon around 10 a.m. today before heading up into the mountains." The witness reportedly told police they "filed the report after seeing the news belatedly."
The location is approximately 23 kilometers from Daejeon O-World in a straight line. Police and fire authorities deployed drones to search the area but ended the operation at 8:16 p.m. without finding Neukgu.
A North Chungcheong Province official said, "During the search, another sighting report came in from Daejeon," adding, "We believe the Cheongju report is likely a case of misidentification."
Neukgu, a two-year-old male wolf, escaped through the safari fence at O-World at 9:18 a.m. on January 8 and remains at large more than 30 hours later.
