Three rental cars reported stolen have been found inside containers at an Incheon port storage yard.
According to the Incheon Yeonsu Police Station on Wednesday, officers discovered three stolen sport utility vehicles (SUVs) at the Incheon New Port yard in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon around 1 p.m. the previous day.
Police had received a report from a rental car company stating that contact had been lost with the person who rented the vehicles and that the GPS tracking system showed the cars located at Incheon New Port.
Officers who visited the scene opened containers in the storage yard and found the three stolen vehicles. The cars—two Hyundai Palisades and one Mercedes-Benz GLE—are worth approximately 200 million won ($148,000) combined and were reportedly wrapped in blankets when discovered. The vehicles were rented from three separate rental companies in Gyeonggi Province under the name of a Russian national.
The Incheon Yeonsu Police Station plans to conduct a preliminary investigation before transferring the case to a police station under the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency, which has jurisdiction over where the crime occurred.
