
The National Research Council of Science and Technology (NST) said Tuesday that it held its 240th extraordinary board meeting and appointed Ko Sung-kyu, a professor at Kyung Hee University's College of Korean Medicine, as the new president of the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine (KIOM).
Ko earned a bachelor's degree in Korean medicine in 1991, a master's degree in Korean medicine in 1993 and a doctoral degree in Korean medicine in 1998, all from Kyung Hee University. He also obtained a doctoral degree in medicine from Seoul National University in 2009.
Since joining Kyung Hee University in 2005, he has served as dean of the College of Korean Medicine. He also held positions including vice president of the Association of Korean Medicine, chairman of the National Drug Development Foundation and advisory member of the National Policy Planning Committee.
Ko will serve a three-year term as president beginning April 9.
