Inha University will apply relaxed College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) requirements for medical school applicants from the West Sea 5 Islands and eliminate bonus points for elective subjects in merit-based admissions starting with the 2028 academic year.
The university announced its 2028 admissions plan on Thursday. Under the comprehensive student record evaluation track for West Sea 5 Islands residents, the university will newly establish quotas for pre-medicine and nursing programs, selecting one student each. The CSAT requirement for pre-medicine is set at "a combined score of Grade 5 or below in two subjects among Korean, mathematics, English, and inquiry," significantly relaxed from the general track. Nursing applicants face no CSAT requirements.
The regional doctor selection track will recruit seven students. The CSAT requirement is "a combined score of Grade 5 or below in three subjects among Korean, mathematics, English, and integrated science." The first round selects 3.5 times the quota, followed by interviews.
◆ Document-Based Comprehensive Evaluation Expands by 200 Slots
The comprehensive student record evaluation (Inha Future Talent) track will be divided into interview-based and document-based formats. Document-based admission slots increased by approximately 200 compared to last year. The interview-based pre-medicine CSAT requirement is "a combined score of Grade 4 or below in three areas among Korean, mathematics, English, and inquiry."
The student record subject-based (Regional Balance) track weighs academic subjects at 90% and non-academic factors including attendance and volunteer service at 10%. Eligibility is set for "graduates or expected graduates from 2026 onward," allowing repeat test-takers to apply.
The essay excellence track operates at 90% essay and 10% student record subjects. CSAT requirements are "a combined Grade 6 in two subjects" for humanities and natural sciences, and "a combined Grade 3 in three subjects" for pre-medicine.
◆ Merit-Based Admissions Eliminate Elective Subject Bonus Points
Merit-based admissions will eliminate bonus points by CSAT elective subject. The Liberal Arts Convergence Division and college-specific convergence divisions will reflect whichever converted score is higher between Type A and Type B.
Penalty criteria for school violence-related disciplinary measures have also been strengthened across all admission tracks.
"We designed this to strengthen the university's social responsibility and public mission while evaluating each student's potential and authenticity," said Shin Dong-hoon, Director of Admissions at Inha University. "We will do our best to discover inquiry-oriented talents demanded by future society and talents who grow together with the region."
