The city of Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, held a launch ceremony for the "Golden Silla Gyeongju XR Bus" at the HICO parking lot on Thursday and began full operations of the service, which uses extended reality (XR) technology to vividly recreate the ancient capital's historical landscape.
The Gyeongju XR Bus is a convergence tourism content that integrates XR technology with a mode of transportation. Its defining feature is transforming the ride itself into an immersive experience.
Passengers can experience Gyeongju's history and culture in vivid detail through immersive content while the bus is in motion.
The city expects the XR bus, a differentiated tourism offering that combines cutting-edge technology with historical and cultural resources, to significantly enhance the appeal of Gyeongju tourism.
The service will operate through December 15, running four times a day, five days a week, excluding Mondays and Tuesdays.
Each ride takes approximately one hour.
Reservations can be made through the "Gyeongju-ro ON" app, and the ride is free of charge.
"We expect the XR bus to establish itself as a new attraction for Gyeongju tourism," said Choi Hyeok-jun, acting mayor of Gyeongju. "We will continue to expand various experience-based tourism content."
