Choi Seon, a preliminary candidate for Gangbuk District chief, said on the 8th that he "will not take lightly the will and expectations you have shown, and will approach the primary with an even greater sense of responsibility."
The Seoul branch of the Democratic Party of Korea confirmed Choi as an official primary candidate the previous afternoon. The primary will be held on the 12th and 13th. If a candidate wins a majority of votes, that candidate's nomination will be confirmed.
Choi is regarded as a representative grassroots politician of Gangbuk District, having served as a Blue House administrator under President Lee Jae-myung, a Seoul Metropolitan Council member, and a Gangbuk District council member. His combined experience in local legislative work and central government administration is seen as a key competitive advantage that helped him pass the preliminary round.
Immediately after passing the preliminary, Choi said, "I was able to get through the preliminary thanks to the overwhelming support driven by the earnestness of our party members." He added, "I will fully incorporate the governing philosophy I learned while working alongside President Lee Jae-myung into Gangbuk District." He emphasized, "I will prove that I am a capable district chief candidate who will revive livelihoods and create future growth engines for Gangbuk."
