
The election management committee of the Democratic Party of Korea's South Jeolla provincial chapter announced the primary results for municipal chiefs in 15 cities and counties on the 8th.
In the six districts where two-candidate primaries were held, Kang Seong-hwi of Mokpo, Jeong In-hwa of Gwangyang, Yoon Byeong-tae of Naju, Cha Young-su of Gangjin, Lee Jae-gak of Jindo, and Woo Seung-hee of Yeongam were finalized as the party's municipal chief candidates.
In Haenam and Sinan counties, where three-candidate and five-candidate primaries were held respectively, candidates Myung Hyun-kwan and Park Woo-ryang each secured majority votes to be confirmed as final candidates.
In addition, Yoon Young-min and Im Ji-rak of Hwasun, Park Jong-won and Lee Gyu-hyun of Damyang, Kim Han-jong and So Young-ho of Jangseong, and Kwak Tae-su and Kim Seong of Jangheung advanced to runoff primaries.
In districts where preliminary primaries were held, Kim Young-gyu, Baek In-suk, Seo Young-hak, and Jeong Gi-myeong of Yeosu; Shin Eui-jun, Woo Hong-seob, and Ji Young-bae of Wando; and Kim San, Na Gwang-guk, Lee Hye-ja, and Choi Ok-su of Muan were confirmed as main primary candidates. The main primaries and runoffs will be held on the 14th and 15th.
The primary results for the remaining seven cities and counties, where voting takes place on the 8th and 9th, are scheduled to be announced at 10 a.m. on the 10th.
"We are selecting competitive candidates through fair and transparent primaries," an official from the Democratic Party's South Jeolla election management committee said. "We will thoroughly manage the remaining primaries to ensure the trust of provincial residents and party members."
