Busan Citizens Park, the city's flagship downtown park, is set to enhance visitor convenience and cultural offerings.
Busan Infrastructure Corporation announced Thursday that it will pursue improvements across parking, safety and cultural programming to create a park environment where citizens can easily visit and linger in their daily lives.
To improve parking convenience, the corporation plans to build a temporary parking lot with approximately 60 spaces on the park's east side during the first half of the year, operating primarily on weekends and public holidays. A 93-space temporary parking lot on the south side has been in operation since late March.
The underground parking garage will receive an upgraded vehicle guidance system and anti-slip coating to enhance safety. The Busan Concert Hall parking lot will adopt a mobile payment system starting this month.
Safety and environmental improvements within the park will proceed in parallel. Aging wooden decks will be replaced with eco-friendly ceramic decks, and water features will be refurbished to create a more pleasant environment.
The park will also offer fitness programs including daily health exercises, nature meditation yoga and aerobics. New storage lockers for runners will be installed at the visitor center to improve convenience.
Cultural content will be expanded as well. Plans include a "Lawn Library" where visitors can freely read books on the grass plaza, a "Lawn Film Festival" for families, and a "Stream-side Small Library" at Songsanghyeon Square.
In addition, the park will continue programs such as "Five Senses Walk," an ecology-and-art convergence program, citizen health consultation classes and safety experience events.
"We will develop Busan Citizens Park into an urban healing space and a culturally vibrant park that citizens can comfortably visit as part of their daily lives," said Lee Seong-rim, CEO of Busan Infrastructure Corporation. "We will actively incorporate citizen feedback to create a safer and more enjoyable park environment."
