A religious organization and a child welfare agency in Busan are joining forces to sponsor improvements in pediatric healthcare. The public-private partnership aims to help address gaps in medical services.
The Busan Metropolitan Government said it will hold a donation ceremony for Busan Children's Hospital at the city hall reception room on Thursday, with participation from Suyeongro Church and ChildFund Korea (also known as Green Umbrella). Park Heong-jun, Busan Mayor, Lee Hyun-woo, administrative pastor of Suyeongro Church, and Cho Yu-jin, head of ChildFund Korea's Busan regional office, will attend the event.
The total donation amounts to 150 million won ($110,000), carrying special significance as the local community came together for children's healthcare despite economic uncertainty. The funds were raised through voluntary "good offerings" collected by Suyeongro Church congregation members.
The donation will be used to expand medical equipment at Busan Children's Hospital, which is on track to open in 2028, and to cover treatment costs for children and adolescents from vulnerable groups. "I hope this act of giving spreads across the broader community and becomes an opportunity to brighten Busan's future," Mayor Park said.
