Korea National Railway (KR), the state rail infrastructure agency, opened "Seomseomosku," a free nail care service facility, at Dongtan Station on Wednesday.
Seomseomosku is a program jointly operated by KR, railway operators, the Korea Employment Agency for Persons with Disabilities, and private companies. The initiative provides job training to persons with disabilities and hires them as store staff. A total of 11 such facilities have been established at railway stations nationwide, providing employment to 55 persons with disabilities.
KR signed an agreement with SR, the operator of SRT high-speed rail, and other partners to create social value. The agency provided a space on the fourth basement level of Dongtan Station to KB Securities, which operates the Seomseomosku facility. Passengers can receive the free service by presenting a same-day SRT ticket.
"We expect to simultaneously enhance public value and service quality by supporting job creation for persons with disabilities through cooperation with private companies and by offering convenience services to railway passengers," said Lee An-ho, acting chairman of Korea National Railway. "We will continue to expand various public interest programs in partnership with private and public enterprises."
KR has been pursuing a range of public interest projects utilizing idle railway land, including railway daycare centers to ease the childcare burden for dual-income families, co-working spaces open free to the public, and dormitories to provide stable housing for university students.
