The Daejeon Metropolitan Government announced it will accept citizen proposals from April 7 through May 26 for its 2027 participatory budgeting process.
Eligible participants include Daejeon residents, workers employed in the city, members of nonprofit organizations, and students. Citizens can directly propose projects and participate in municipal governance.
The total project budget is 5 billion won ($3.6 million), unchanged from last year. Eligible proposals target metropolitan-scale issues or citizen convenience projects spanning two or more districts.
Proposal categories include the economy, employment, community, youth, women, welfare, culture and tourism, sports, environment, transportation, housing, urban regeneration, safety, and administration.
Applications can be submitted through the Daejeon participatory budget website, email, fax, mail, or in-person visits. Submitted proposals will undergo departmental review and evaluation, followed by a citizen vote and citizen assembly before final selection. Approved projects will be reflected in the 2027 budget after receiving approval from the city council.
"The participatory budget is a system where citizens directly propose projects they need and take part in the budget planning process," said Han Chi-heum, director of the Planning and Coordination Office. "We hope for strong interest and active participation from our citizens."
