Dangjin, a city in South Chungcheong Province, said Friday that it purchased rice with the 100 million won ($70,000) donated by national table tennis player Shin Yu-bin through the "Hope 2026 Sharing Campaign" and distributed it to underprivileged residents in the region.
The city delivered 3,125 bags of 10-kilogram "Dangjin Haenaru Shin Yu-bin Rice" to administrative welfare centers and social welfare facilities across its towns and districts.
Shin became the advertising model for Dangjin's Haenaru rice brand in September 2024. In December last year, she visited the Dangjin City Gymnasium for the "2nd Shin Yu-bin and Dangjin City National Youth Table Tennis Festival," where she donated 100 million won to the city.
Shin also donated 100 million won in October 2024 through the cities of Dangjin and Suwon in Gyeonggi Province. This brought her total contributions to the sharing campaign to 200 million won over two consecutive years.
"Thanks to Shin Yu-bin's promotion of Haenaru rice, sales reached 15,000 tons last year, an increase of 1,260 tons from 2024," a Dangjin city official said. "We will continue to enhance the brand value of Haenaru rice."
