A sport utility vehicle (SUV) traveling on the Seohaean Expressway caught fire and was completely destroyed, but all occupants escaped safely.
According to fire authorities, the blaze broke out at around 8:05 p.m. on Monday in an SUV traveling near the Iljik Junction on the Seohaean Expressway in Soha-dong, Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province, heading toward Mokpo.
The driver and two passengers evacuated the vehicle on their own, and no injuries were reported.
The fire spread rapidly across the entire vehicle, ultimately reducing it to ashes. Firefighters who responded to the emergency call launched suppression efforts and fully extinguished the blaze by approximately 8:38 p.m., about 30 minutes after arrival.
During the cleanup, some lanes were closed to prevent secondary accidents, causing temporary traffic congestion in the area.
The driver reportedly told authorities that the fire started immediately after pulling over to the shoulder upon noticing something wrong with the vehicle while driving.
Fire authorities confirmed that the vehicle was a diesel-powered SUV, not an electric vehicle, and said they are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
