Police investigating 13 allegations against independent lawmaker Kim Byeong-gi said they plan to reach conclusions sequentially, starting with cases where charges can be determined in the near term.
Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Park Jeong-bo said at a regular press briefing held at the agency's headquarters in Naeja-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul on Tuesday morning, "It appears difficult to reach a blanket conclusion on all 13 allegations, so we plan to sequentially conclude cases where investigations have made considerable progress." He added, "Since even a single complaint or accusation can be referred to prosecutors separately, we intend to refer cases with substantiated charges on an individual basis."
On June 2, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Public Crimes Investigation Unit conducted the fifth round of suspect questioning of Rep. Kim, who faces charges including bribery. The questioning session lasted approximately five hours. Kim had previously complained of back pain during the third round of questioning on May 11, leaving after five hours. The fourth round also ended after five hours for the same reason.
Kim currently faces 13 allegations of misconduct, including nomination kickbacks, abuse of power, and leveraging his position to benefit his children. The allegations raised against Kim to date broadly include: △acceptance of hotel vouchers △airport VIP protocol privileges △preferential hospital treatment △his spouse's personal use of a corporate credit card △enlisting his eldest son in National Intelligence Service operations △intervening in his eldest son's NIS recruitment △unauthorized seizure of aides' Telegram accounts △condoning bribery involving Rep. Kang Sun-woo △his second son's transfer admission to Soongsil University △a luncheon meeting with the Coupang CEO △and nomination kickbacks.
