The National Institute for Lifelong Education (NILE) announced on the 6th that Kim Wol-yong, former head of the Incheon Human Resources and Lifelong Education Institute, will be inaugurated as the sixth president on the 7th of this month.
This marks the first time a graduate of the Academic Credit Bank System and the Self-Study Degree Examination System — both operated by NILE — has been appointed to lead the institute. Kim was selected through an open recruitment process, receiving a recommendation from NILE's presidential nomination committee before gaining approval through a board resolution and the Minister of Education's endorsement. His term runs for three years, through April 2029.
Kim passed the middle school and high school qualification examinations and earned a bachelor's degree in business administration through the Academic Credit Bank System and the Self-Study Degree Examination System. He later obtained a master's degree in policy studies from Yonsei University's Graduate School of Public Administration and a doctoral degree in engineering from Hansei University's Graduate School.
He built extensive field experience and policy expertise in lifelong education and vocational training, serving as the regional president overseeing the Gyeonggi-Incheon area at Korea Polytechnic II College and as head of the Incheon Lifelong Education Promotion Institute. He also led Incheon Citizens' University based on that experience.
During his tenures as Korea Polytechnic college president and Incheon Human Resources and Lifelong Education Institute head, he received the highest ratings in management evaluations and institutional leadership assessments.
Upon taking office, Kim plans to begin with departmental business briefings, reviewing key pending issues and the progress of lifelong learning initiatives designated as national policy tasks.
