Kim Dong-yeon, a preliminary candidate challenging for the Democratic Party of Korea's Gyeonggi Province gubernatorial nomination, called for support on Tuesday, emphasizing his strong track record in handling economic crises.
"The economy is in an emergency. The situation is so serious that even the President has mentioned 'wartime conditions,'" Kim wrote on his social media account. "Gyeonggi Province must become an 'economic reinforcement.'"
"We need an 'economic commander' who understands the economy well and can act immediately," he added. "I, Kim Dong-yeon, am prepared."
Kim explained his crisis management credentials across successive liberal administrations. "I served as a Blue House administrator under President Kim Dae-jung and took part in overcoming the IMF crisis. Under President Roh Moo-hyun, I helped create 'Vision 2030,' the nation's first long-term national development strategy," he said.
"Under President Moon Jae-in, I served as the first Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and resolved a credit crisis stemming from geopolitical risks," he added.
"I will share the burden of President Lee Jae-myung as he navigates the economic crisis," Kim said. "I appeal to party members and provincial residents to judge who is a prepared candidate and who is not when it comes to breaking through crises."
