The city of Gunpo announced Monday that it recently approved the formation of a residents' representative council for the Sanbon 9-2 district reconstruction project, a designated pilot zone, establishing the foundation for full-scale project execution.
With this approval, the Sanbon 9-2 district now has both key pillars for advancing the project — the previously designated project operator, Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), and the newly formed residents' council. Smooth coordination between the two bodies is expected to accelerate the project going forward.
The residents' representative council is an official body established under the Urban and Residential Environment Improvement Act to collect opinions from landowners and other stakeholders in publicly led redevelopment projects. The project implementation agreement, a procedure that sets key standards for protecting residents' rights and ensuring transparent execution, will be finalized through future consultations.
With the council now launched, Gunpo will serve as a mediator between landowners and the project operator when necessary. The city plans to foster stable conditions for project execution built on mutual trust between residents and the operator.
"The framework for the redevelopment project has been established as the Sanbon 9-2 pilot district has sequentially completed the designation of a project operator and the formation of a residents' representative council," Gunpo Mayor Ha Eun-ho said. "We will continue to provide administrative support to ensure that residents' opinions are reflected in a balanced manner."
