A former nursing assistant accused of supplying drugs to a driver who crashed a Porsche on Banpo Bridge while under the influence has been indicted and detained.
According to a Seoul Economic Daily investigation on June 6, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office indicted a woman in her 30s, identified only as "A," on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act and theft.
A, a former nursing assistant, is accused of providing psychotropic medications to driver "B," who caused an accident while driving on Banpo Bridge in Seoul's Yongsan district on February 25 this year. A was reportedly in the passenger seat while B remained in a parking garage of a building in Seocho-dong, Seoul. A later turned herself in at Yongsan Police Station on May 2, telling officers she had "handed drugs to B."
Driver B, known as a social media influencer, caused the accident at around 8:44 p.m. on the day of the crash when the Porsche fell from Banpo Bridge onto vehicles traveling on Gangbyeonbuk-ro before plunging further down to Jamsu Bridge. The accident left B and a Mercedes-Benz driver with minor injuries and damaged four vehicles.
Propofol injection kits and sedative anesthetic drugs were found in B's vehicle at the time. B was indicted and detained on May 24 on charges including violation of the Narcotics Control Act and causing injury through dangerous driving under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
Police conducted a search and seizure last month at the hospital where A had worked, identifying it as the suspected source of the propofol and other drugs in B's possession. Investigators also traced the distribution records of empty propofol bottles found in the Porsche and confirmed that some had been delivered to the hospital where A had worked.
A was detained after undergoing a pretrial detention hearing on June 10.
