South Chungcheong Province on Sunday appointed Kim Jang-eon, former director of Art Sonje Center, as the new head of the Chungnam Art Museum Opening Preparatory Team.
Kim is widely regarded as the right person to systematically prepare for the museum's opening and strengthen the region's cultural and arts infrastructure. He brings extensive experience in culture, arts and administration from diverse organizations including the Anyang Public Art Foundation, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Seoul Public Art Committee, Art Sonje Center and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Cultural Diplomacy Advisory Committee.
Kim will oversee all aspects of the museum's opening preparations, including establishing the operational foundation, planning exhibitions and content, and building external cooperation networks. He is expected to play a pivotal role in creating a multipurpose cultural space where provincial residents can enjoy art in their daily lives.
"An art museum must go beyond being a space simply for viewing exhibitions. It should be an open space where residents and art meet, and where the region's cultural value is expanded," Kim said. "From the preparatory stage, I will build a solid foundation to create a museum that every resident wants to visit — one that embodies both regional identity and a vision for the future."
The province plans to accelerate preparations for the Chungnam Art Museum, which is scheduled for construction completion in March next year, to create a high-quality cultural and arts space that meets residents' expectations.
