Seoul's Dobong District has abolished 59 parking spots previously reserved for official vehicles on basement levels 1 and 2 of its district office building, opening them to visitors to address chronic parking shortages.
The reserved spots for official vehicles had accounted for approximately 20% of the building's 307 total parking spaces. The district converted them to public use as part of a resident-centered initiative.
Ahead of the opening, about 30 employees from the Dobong District Office and the Dobong District Facilities Management Corporation participated in cleaning the underground parking lot and the ground-level plaza on the 21st and 22nd. They also repainted aging safety markings to improve convenience and safety for users.
"We will continue to pursue resident-centered administration going forward," Dobong District Mayor Oh Eon-seok said.
