Kwangju Bank has once again rolled out generous community-oriented financial products this year tied to the KIA Tigers' season, even though a championship win by the team would mean a money-losing deal for the bank.
Kwangju Bank said on the 2nd that it held a subscription event for multigenerational KIA fan families to celebrate the launch of its "KIA Tigers Championship Savings Deposit and Installment Savings" products.
The products are sports-themed offerings designed to cheer on the KIA Tigers, the region's representative professional baseball team, and to engage with local residents. They have become a signature steady seller for Kwangju Bank, released every baseball season.
A family spanning three generations — grandmother, father and child — participated in the event together, adding special significance. The family, which has cheered for the KIA Tigers across generations, demonstrated deep affection for regional baseball and heightened the symbolic meaning of the event.
The "KIA Tigers Championship Savings Deposit" allows one account per person with deposits ranging from 5 million won to 100 million won. It offers a maximum annual rate of 3.25% (base rate of 2.70%), including up to 0.25 percentage points in preferential rates and up to 0.30 percentage points in event rates.
The preferential rates break down as follows: 0.05 percentage points for advancing to the postseason, 0.10 percentage points for winning the regular season title, and 0.10 percentage points for winning the Korean Series. Additional event rates include up to 0.20 percentage points based on the team's number of wins and 0.10 percentage points for holders of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Special City Sarang (Love) Passbook.
The simultaneously launched "KIA Tigers Championship Installment Savings" is a fixed-amount installment product allowing one account per person with monthly contributions of 100,000 won to 1 million won. It offers a maximum annual rate of 3.65% (base rate of 2.40%), including up to 0.25 percentage points in preferential rates and up to 1.00 percentage points in event rates.
The "KIA Tigers Championship Savings Deposit and Installment Savings" products are available for sale until July 31 and may be discontinued early if the sales quota is exhausted.
"The KIA Tigers are more than just a sports team for the people of Gwangju and South Jeolla Province — they are a source of regional pride and a symbol of support that unites generations," Kwangju Bank CEO Jeong Il-seon said. "We will continue to introduce diverse financial products and marketing initiatives that promote mutual prosperity with the local community."
