Saemo, a new multipurpose cultural complex, opened on Thursday in the Dongsam Innovation District in Yeongdo-gu, Busan.
The name Saemo combines a reference to the triangular shape of the site, which inspired the architectural design, with the meaning "a space where everyone gathers anew." The facility was designed as a community-oriented multipurpose hub.
An exhibition and performance hall, cultural lecture rooms, a communal childcare center, corporate spaces and an outdoor plaza are organically integrated, creating a structure where culture, childcare and leisure seamlessly connect for both employees of relocated public institutions and local residents.
Saemo marks the symbolic starting point of the "Yeongdo 100-Year Revival Project" recently announced by the Busan Metropolitan Government.
The plan calls for building a K-pop arena in Yeongdo and developing an international tourism complex around the Taejongdae and Gamji Beach areas, expanding cultural and tourism infrastructure to comprehensively reshape the district's urban functions.
