Construction of the Imdang Unicorn Park in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang Province, scheduled to open next year, is progressing on schedule.
According to Gyeongsan City on the 19th, Imdang Unicorn Park is a project to create a large-scale complex near Imdang Station on Daegu Metro Line 2 to support the development of ventures and startups.
The project is notable for integrating two initiatives overseen by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups: a public rental knowledge industry center and a startup park.
North Gyeongsang Province and Gyeongsan City will invest approximately 99.7 billion won through 2027 to construct a facility with a total floor area of 21,702 square meters across two basement levels and six above-ground floors on a 6,950-square-meter site.
The startup park will consolidate the region's dispersed innovation capabilities and functions to serve as a core hub for the startup ecosystem, providing various support services including entrepreneurship education, networking, and consulting.
The knowledge industry center will offer workspace for nurturing and supporting companies, providing stable growth environments for local innovative ventures.
Following its opening next year, Imdang Unicorn Park will collaborate with startup support agencies and investors to incubate promising venture companies while operating various support programs including customized startup assistance, investment attraction, and networking for open innovation.
Meanwhile, Gyeongsan City officials visited the Imdang Unicorn Park construction site on the 18th to inspect progress and exchange views on project direction with partner organizations including the Gyeongbuk IT Convergence Industry Technology Institute, Yeungnam University, Daegu University, Gyeongbuk Center for Creative Economy and Innovation, the Korea Business Angel Association's Daegu-Gyeongbuk Angel Investment Hub, and SAG Korea.
Gyeongsan Mayor Cho Hyun-il said, "Imdang Unicorn Park will be a core base facility leading the development of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk startup ecosystem and will play a pivotal role in nurturing Gyeongsan as the central startup city of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region."
