Daegu Metropolitan City announced on the 19th that it will pursue hosting the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) Asia-Pacific research and testing laboratory to help domestic water companies enter global markets.
NSF certification is essential for Korean water companies seeking to expand into global markets, but certification is currently only available at NSF's U.S. headquarters. As a result, obtaining certification requires up to six months and costs exceeding $50,000. Besides South Korea, Thailand and Singapore are also seeking to host an NSF testing laboratory.
Daegu plans to leverage its competitive advantages in the bidding process, including state-of-the-art demonstration facilities and testbeds centered on the National Water Industry Cluster, the Korea Water Technology Certification Institute, and corporate concentration facilities.
