Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, who had declined to register as a candidate for the People Power Party's June 3 local elections while calling for changes in the party's direction, welcomed the party's adoption of a resolution opposing "Yoon Again" and other related measures, stating that "meaningful change has begun."
At approximately 8:10 p.m. on the 9th, Mayor Oh posted on his social media, "I am relieved and grateful that lawmakers have moved to normalize the party's direction through today's general assembly." He added, "Meaningful change has begun with the adoption of a resolution declaring a break with Yoon in the name of all party lawmakers."
He continued, "This has laid the minimum foundation for metropolitan area candidates to now participate in the election," adding, "I will do my best to ensure this resolution is not just a declaration but is implemented step by step, so our party can become one that earns the trust and affection of the people."
On this day, the People Power Party adopted a resolution in the name of all its lawmakers, declaring a severance of ties with former President Yoon Suk-yeol. In the resolution, the party stated, "We once again apologize to the people with deep regret for the great confusion and disappointment caused by the wrongful declaration of emergency martial law on December 3," and "We clearly oppose any and all demands for former President Yoon Suk-yeol's political return."
Mayor Oh, a leading contender for the People Power Party's Seoul mayoral candidacy, had been vocal about the need to resolve the party's direction normalization issues. He had also pressed the party for a change in direction by not submitting his candidacy application until the 8th of this month.
